2011 Parent Meeting FAQ

9U – 10U Academy Select Boys and Girls: The Academy Select Program is designed around the competitive program model.  Teams will be formed on ability and will be instructed by an EDGE coach, 3 times per week. The program will place emphasis on advancing techniques, fundamentals of soccer tactics and sportsmanship. Teams will operate in the Colorado Soccer Association state-wide leagues playing 7v7.  The Academy Select program is directed by the 9U-10U Director of Coaching and teams/players are coached by qualified paid coaches.

Academy Select Player Placement– Players will be observed and monitored for this program during the spring 8U season (team training, staff training, and team games). 8U kickaround dates will be offered in late Spring for all 8U players to join the staff and coaches for informational meetings and playing opportunities.  Formal placement of players will take place in early summer from information gathered by staff and team coaches as well as playing observations.

  • Real Colorado EDGE discourages coaches and parents from emphasizing winning and losing. The emphasis should be on the players’ participation, development, and enjoyment of the game.
  • After the end of each game, each player should participate in the traditional friendship line and shake hands with the other team.

Team Formation
Teams will be formed as ‘pools’, with each pool consisting of a minimum of 18 players that make 2 teams for a game day. Each pool will have their own coach and will practice together twice per week. The third practice will be all pools practicing together in Staff Training.

Timeline (provisional)

Early June – Places are offered by the club and families have 7 days to accept or decline. The acceptance of a place in the program is not a placement on a specific pool, it is a place in the program as a whole.

Mid June – Uniform fitting info TBA. After fitting, orders for packages will be made online.

Early August – Teams will begin practices as an entire program. From here, pool coaches will determine which players are suitable for each pool and level of play in the state league. This will form a primary assignment for each player ahead of a Labor Day Weekend tournament.

Labor Day Weekend – All Academy Select teams will play a tournament or friendly games. The CSA league season begins the following weekend.

Cost

$775 – club registration for Fall and Spring seasons (entire year).

Heavy focus on Technique

9U Information Page

Year 1 of the Academy Select program focuses on individual player development, as outlined in the Academy Select Overview.

Sessions have a focus on individual skill development and simple tactical decisions. This is drawn from the 2 year curriculum that has been developed by the club, in alignment with the Long Term Development Pathway that RCE implements across all ages.

A sample week is outlined below:

Skills Training – 60 minute session with RCE Staff Trainers/AS Coaches
Sample Session
Players from 9U & 10U practice together with a focus on 1v1 up to 4v4 scenarios in a smaller space, encouraging players to think and play faster. Players are mixed across ages to provide a different challenge than their regular practice sessions, this gives players a better understanding of being part of something bigger than their own team/pool

Team/Pool Practice 1 – 75 minute session with Head Coach.

Team/Pool Practice 2 – 75 minute session with Head Coach.
