2008/09 U18G Black Team Member Signs College Commitment
Another player from the 2008-2009 Edge U18G Black team has signed to play NAIA soccer for Bethany College in Kansas. Caitlin O’Connor played for last year’s U18G Black team as a defender. Caitlin was playing up a year, so did not get heavily recruited before the end of her junior year at Arvada West. Her Edge coaches (Allan Reid & Mark Johnson) worked to get her as a guest player on a showcase team last June in Boulder. There she was seen and recruited by several colleges. Caitlin had official visits to Northwestern in Iowa as well as Bethany in Kansas this fall. Bethel College in Kansas also was very interested in her to the point of coming to Denver to meet with her. Coach Johnson has a close working relationship with many of the college coaches and felt she would fit well with the Bethany program.
Caitlin decided on Bethany for the academic program it offered in music, as well as being reunited with another U18G Black team member, Lindsey Pfenninger, who is a freshman there this year. Caitlin and Lindsey will become half of the defense for Bethany, and if they play as well as they did for Edge, they will be a tough duo to beat. Caitlin has the work ethic that Steve Moore, the Bethany coach, is recruiting. She always played at a 100% level for Edge, and Steve expects her to bring that same effort to the Bethany Swedes soccer program.
